Volunteers Always Needed

The Port Washington Soccer Club is a Community Chest-sponsored organization, run entirely by volunteers to provide a soccer program for approximately 800 youths in our community.  In order to provide the best possible experience, the Port Washington Soccer Club retains soccer professionals to train players and assist parents in coaching.  If you are interested in coaching or helping in other areas, such as fundraising, scheduling referees or refereeing, website design or maintenance, public relations, photography, organizing soccer events, etc., please contact us at information@pwsoccer.com.

We would be most grateful for your assistance!!

PWSC Coaching Requirements

I. MANDATORY BACKGROUND CHECK

In order to be an adult supervisor (coach) in the Port Washington Soccer Club, you must undergo a Background Check required by Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYSSA.)  Please go to: http://www.enysoccer.com/Risk/163238.html and click on the appropriate league, which is LIJSL.

When your background check is complete, and you are risk management cleared, you will receive a confirming e-mail.  This must be provided to the Club Registrar or Vice President of Intramurals.  Please retain a copy for your own records.  This clearance is good for two years.

II. CPR CLASS

All coaches are required to become certified in CPR by no later than March 1, 2009.  New coaches will be permitted [six months] to become certified.  A copy of your certification must be provided to the Club Registrar.

III. TRAVEL COACH ORIENTATION CLASS

In order to receive a permanent adult supervisor pass, you must attend a two hour class sponsored by LIJSL, which reviews league procedures and rules.  (New coaches may receive a temporary pass once, which expires within three months and cannot be renewed.)  Classes are offered at the Fall and Spring conventions (in August and March, respectively) and you must call the LIJSL office @ 631-648-9020 in advance to reserve a spot.

IV. REQUIRED COACHING CLASSES

The By-Laws of the Port Washington Soccer Club require that all travel coaches and trainers obtain:

1. an LIJSL "C" coaching license (NSCAA State Diploma) within the first year of coaching; and

2. an LIJSL "B" coaching license (NSCAA Regional Diploma) for coaches of U-14 or older teams.

Information about the classes and availability can be found at: http://www.lijsoccer.com/index.php?name=Sections&req=viewarticle&artid=34&page=1

 V. LIABILITY INSURANCE RECOMMENDED

It is strongly recommended that all adult supervisors, coaches, and trainers obtain liability insurance.  The most convenient way to do this is to join the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for $60: http://www.nscaa.com/join.php.
