June 14 - JET STREAM soared to yet another victory!!!
To All JET STREAM Senior Girls Intertown Players & Parents:
WOW! Last Sunday, 20 players strong, the JET STREAM soared to yet another victory! It was not only a great example of how important a tough defense, excellent goal-tending, and a never-give-up offense can be -- in short, great playing by the entire team -- but also of how far we’ve come, in skills and in working as a team, since the beginning of the year. Girls, YOU ROCK! Many thanks as well to Richard Burton for assisting with coaching the game, to Maria and Gil for taking team pictures, and to the Sethi-Unni family for the outstanding after-game celebration!
What’s next:
1) Fall 2009 INTERTOWN Senior Girls team; online registration has begun! Please discuss plans for the fall with your daughter so that we can get a firm idea of how large a Senior Girls Intertown team we will have. NOTE: Girls can and often do play on both a Weber team and on Intertown or travel teams in the fall; practice and game schedules will not conflict.
2) The Tardera Intertown Festival (an annual event for our club) will be Sunday June 21, 2 - 5PM, at Sousa. We need your help to make it a success! Please email Rita Sethi (rita.sethi@gmail.com) ASAP to inform her of what you plan to bring (see list below), or whether you will be available to volunteer some time. Players should wear Blue game jerseys, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, ball, and remove all jewelry. All family members and friends are invited to join. Parents should dress in soccer gear as well to prepare for the annual parents-kids game! Trophies and a soccer patch will also be distributed at the festival; please make arrangements to stop by briefly or have a friend pick these up if you cannot attend.

A great win on Sunday June 7th!
Another terrific win for the JET STREAM! In a very exciting game, our team fought hard, despite oppressive heat and no subs in the second half, to achieve a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against a well matched team. Although I could single out many players for their excellent performance, it was truly another team effort that made this happen, and all parents and players can be very proud. Also, a special thanks to former coach Greg Winter for reffing the game. Let's finish the season strong!
PRACTICE: This Saturday, 6/6, usual time/ place (10:45 at Sousa). It's important that all players attend, as we want to be well prepared on Sunday, and it's our last practice!!
GAME SUNDAY 6/14 against Albertson. Game will be at 3PM at the Wheatley School (directions below). Players are expected to arrive at ***2:15PM*** for a practice and instruction (allow about 25 min for travel).
Players should wear Blue game jerseys, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, ball, and remove all jewelry.
As mentioned earlier, as a courtesy to other players and coaches, ***please*** call me or email in advance if you anticipate that your daughter cannot make the game.

After the game we are planning our end-of-the-season party. If the weather is good we will swim and have pizza at Sabina's house and if not, it will be at Amalfis. please let us know if you can make it.
Reminders:
1) Fall 2009 INTERTOWN Senior Girls team; online registration will be available shortly. Tough game on May 31st
But the girls played hard
Although we had another tough game last weekend, I was very impressed with how hard our team played against a skilled Manhasset team. However we also need more practice with a focus on the basics (better ball control, passing, better communicating, and improved positioning on the field) in order to play at our best.
PRACTICE: This Saturday, 6/6, usual time/ place (10:45 at Sousa). It’s important that all players attend, to work on the skills mentioned above, and to work to keep our winning "edge" for upcoming games!
GAME SUNDAY 6/7 against Valley Stream, at Daly field: As in the past, players are expected to arrive at 2:45PM for a practice and instruction, before the 3:30PM game.
Players should wear Blue game jerseys, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, ball, and remove all jewelry.
As mentioned earlier, as a courtesy to other players and coaches, ***please*** call me or email in advance if you anticipate that your daughter cannot make the game.
Head’s Up Announcements/ Reminders:
1) PLANNING FOR NEXT FALL: JET STREAM girls have begun to inquire about being on the INTERTOWN Senior girls team in the fall. Please discuss plans for the fall with your daughter so that we can get a firm idea of how large a Senior Girls Intertown team we will have.
2) Optional Try-outs for the Travel Soccer teams: Players may also try out for a travel team for the fall. Travel teams are grouped by age: Girls under 13 (GU13:Stingers); Girls under 14 (GU14:Wildcats-Jaguars); Girls under 15 (GU15:Blue Angels/ Devils). Try-outs begin very soon; go to http://www.pwsoccer.com/travelschedules/TravelTryouts/index_E.html for the schedule for different age groups. 3) The Tardera Intertown Festival (an annual event for our club) will be Sunday June 21, 2 - 5PM, at Sousa. Trophies for the past year will be presented at this event. It’s basically like a big soccer picnic, and parents and players are invited ! Look for an email to follow with more info.

Another Exciting Weekend for JetStream - May 16/17
It was another exciting weekend for the JET STREAM! It wasn't only that both games were against well matched teams, or that we scored some fantastic goals (thanks to Kristina, Lacey, and Rachel!) or that we had outstanding goal-tending (thanks to Gabby, Juliet, and Maggie!) -- because none of that could happen without great offense and defense, and so ALL the girls deserve the credit -- for their excellent performance on the field, for working hard to improve their own skills, and for learning to play as a team.
PRACTICE: No practice or games Memorial Day weekend due to the holiday (a well earned break!).
THE HEAD'S UP ON UPCOMING GAMES:
The next several games will be at Daly or Harbor Links (details in future emails)
Our special thanks to parents who have been helping with car pools, cheering the girls on from the sidelines, and ***especially*** for emailing or calling in advance when you anticipate that your daughter cannot make a game (makes a coach's life a lot easier!).

Jetstream on Fire last weekend!
It was great to see the JET STREAM on fire last Saturday, as we played very well and notched another win! Although there’s always room to continue to grow our skills, as there will be tough games ahead, it was great to see the girls maximizing their talents on offense and defense, striving for their individual best, and really playing as a team. What a difference in a month!
PRACTICE: Saturday 10:45 - 12PM @ Sousa. Bring practice ball, etc.
GAME SUNDAY 5/3 against Lynbrook, at Daly field: As in the past, players are expected to arrive at 2:45PM for a practice and instruction, before the 3:30PM game. Players should wear Blue game jerseys, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, ball, and remove all jewelry.
Please let the coaches know if you anticipate that your daughter cannot make the 5/3 game.
GO JET STREAM!
What a weekend on April 4-5!!
What a weekend! Parents and players who braved high winds and cold saw the Jet Stream defeat Hewlett (a true team effort, with outstanding goals by Demaris and Rachel) and fight hard against an experienced Oceanside team yesterday. Our practice efforts are already beginning to pay off, but we need to continue to build on basic skills, better communicating, and improved positioning on the field. Thanks as well to Dan who assisted with a pre-game practice yesterday, and to many parents who have been helping to arrange car pools, post-game team snacks at restaurants, and more.
PRACTICE: No practices on the next 2 Saturdays (4/11 and 4/18) due to the holiday break.
GAME SUNDAY 4/19 against Manhasset, at Daly field: As in the past, players are expected to arrive at 2:45PM for a practice and instruction, before the 3:30PM game. Since this game falls on the last Sunday of the holiday break, please notify me ASAP if your daughter will be away and unable to attend (otherwise the team and I will assume she’ll be there).
Players should wear Blue game jerseys, bring plenty of water, ball, and remove all jewelry. As mentioned earlier, as a courtesy to other players, please respond when you receive this email if you anticipate that your daughter cannot make the 4/19 game. As I will be out of town 4/12 - 4/19 but returning for the game, please contact Ass’t coach David Sturman if you need to reach someone in the days prior to the game.
